For over 50 years and 2 generations, Coyne Drainage has been in service to the people of Wellington. We’ve laid thousands of metres of drainage under your streets, homes and places of work and play.
We design, plan and lay drainage for surveyors, architects, project managers and property owners in Wellington. We do jobs that others can’t or won’t and pride ourselves on our ability to minimise the intrusiveness of laying drains.
Our Story
We’re a family owned business that was started by Michael Coyne in 1967… Today, the business is run by Laurie and Amanda Coyne (Michael’s son and daughter-in-law.)
Laurie joined the business in 1996 taking a break from Uni before going back to do honours – but after receiving a Bachelor of Commerce, he never did return to Uni, deciding instead to get into the family business. Michael was Laurie’s mentor and the business has kept going strong under the family name to this day.
There’s no secret sauce, just good honest work to ensure our customers are happy. If you look behind the scenes, the hard-working Amanda Coyne does a lot to organise and support our guys who are out in “the trenches”. To start things off, call our helpful team today on 021 128 8280.

Michael Coyne
Founder
Coyne DrainageMichael is the man that started it all. He moved to New Zealand in 1957 and went out on his own in 1967. Like virtually every Wellington drainlayer from those days, he’s of Irish descent! His favourite hobby is watching the horse races, which is a family affair too.
Laurence “Laurie” Coyne
Director
Coyne DrainageLaurie leads the family business, working with clients on planning and design, organising the guys on the job and working on the business to deliver the best possible result to more and more clients.
While Laurie gets behind the Hurricanes and Phoenix like any other Wellingtonian, ‘his team’ would actually be the West Tigers. After an Australian mate took Laurie to a match, he’s been hooked. Once a year Laurie crosses the ditch to support his team (Amanda goes shopping!).
Amanda Coyne
Office Manager
Coyne DrainageAmanda is an Office Manager and Mum, too. She was born in Lower Hutt where she did well in school and went on to study MedLab science through Massey University. After working in a lab for seven years, Amanda decided on a change and studied for an MBA.
Today she’s full time working in the business and full time raising kids! Her favourite hobbies, when kids allow, is going to the gym or yoga classes.
